William George Dyson was born in Wandsworth, London in 1889, son of George and Fanny Mary DYSON (née WADE).

1891 census...Aged 2, he was at North Street, Burwell with his father George DYSON [28] labourer born Burwell; his mother Fanny [24] born St. Martin in the Field, London and sister Edith L [1] born in Burwell.

1901 census...Aged 12, he was at North Street, Burwell with his parents (father now a turf merchant), sisters Edith and Margaret [5] born Burwell and brother James [9] born Burwell.

1911 census...Aged 22, a brick labourer, he was at North Street, Burwell with his widowed mother, brother James (turf labourer) and sister Lily [3] born Burwell. His father had died in 1907.



He enlisted on 15th June 1915 and was discharged due to sickness on 19th December 1917 and awarded Silver War Badge B.37482. As he never served overseas, there is no medal entitlement. His death certificate says Sergeant, but his Army record shows Acting Corporal.






William Dyson is buried in Burwell( Baptist ?) Churchyard

He is not on Commonwealth War Graves Commission list but if his burial in Burwell can be documented,
with the help of "In From the Cold" it should be possible to have his name added.
